How to Apply Glycerine to Hair

Glycerin is present in many hair-care products, including conditioners and oils. Glycerin is a humectant, which means it absorbs and holds water. This makes it an effective moisturizer for hair, especially in dry environments. Glycerin also helps the hair shaft maintain flexibility, decreasing breakage. Because glycerin is a naturally sticky substance, you must dilute it with water before applying it to your hair. This will prevent your hair from feeling tacky or sticky to the touch.

Instructions

    • 1

Place a teaspoon of glycerine and three tablespoons of water in a small bowl.

    • 2

Mix the glycerin and water until the mixture forms a uniform consistency; this should take approximately 30 seconds.

    • 3

Make a large part in your hair from your forehead to the nape of your neck. Make another part across the top of your head from ear to ear. This creates four sections.

    • 4

Put a small amount of glycerin on your fingertips and apply the glycerin mixture to the hair, starting with the hair closest to the parts.

    • 5

Apply more of the glycerin mixture to your fingertips and massage it into the hair closest to the scalp in each parted section.

    • 6

Comb through each section with a wide-toothed comb to detangle the hair and spread the glycerin through the hair to the ends. Use a smaller-toothed comb to remove any remaining tangles if necessary.

    • 7

      Style the hair as desired.

Tips & Warnings

  • If your hair feels too sticky, rinse out some of the glycerin with water.
